Our Purpose in Christ
What is our purpose as believers and as a church? Scripture reveals that we are called to exalt God, grow in Christ, and serve the world with the gospel. Through heartfelt worship, intentional discipleship, and faithful mission, we fulfill Christ’s purpose for His people.
Our Purpose: Worship, Growth, and Mission
As the body of Christ, our identity and purpose are found in Him. Worshiping God (John 4:23) is foundational to our calling, as we seek to glorify Him in all we do (1 Corinthians 10:31). Growing in Christ requires ongoing transformation into His likeness (Colossians 3:9-10, 2 Peter 3:18), equipping us for maturity and unity as His followers. Serving the world is our response to Christ’s Great Commission, as we proclaim the gospel and disciple all nations (Matthew 28:19-20).
This timeless truth continues to shape us today. As Carlton Oaks Baptist Church, we gather to magnify God, mature in our faith, and mobilize for His kingdom work. Our mission is grounded in Scripture, defined by Christ’s example, and empowered by His Spirit.
Key Verses and Themes
1 Peter 2:9 declares our identity as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood,” calling us to proclaim the excellencies of God. Colossians 3:16 urges believers to let the Word of Christ richly dwell among us, inspiring worship and spiritual growth. Ephesians 4:15-16 highlights the church’s mission to grow together in love and unity under Christ. Matthew 28:18-20 commands us to make disciples of all nations, sending us on a mission to evangelize the world.
Key terms such as “exalt” (to glorify God), “edify” (to build up the body of Christ), and “evangelize” (to share the gospel) encapsulate our calling. Together, they define a church united in purpose—worshiping, growing, and serving in obedience to God’s Word.
Exalt, Edify, Evangelize
Our purpose as believers and as a church is to exalt God, edify one another, and evangelize the world. Empowered by Scripture and the Holy Spirit, we glorify God in worship, grow in Christ through discipleship, and proclaim the gospel to all nations. This threefold purpose reflects Christ’s heart for His church and His mission for His people. Let us live faithfully in this calling, bringing glory to God, building up His body, and advancing His kingdom on earth.
